Salford
To Manchester city centre's west in a River Irwell meander, which forms part of its Manchester boundary, Salford (/ˈsɒlfərd/) is an area of Greater Manchester. Home to the Salford Uni, Salford has seen firsts, including the world's first free public library, and the first street to be lit by gas. Named after L. S. Lowry, the artist who lived for 40 years in Pendlebury and attended School of Art in Salford, is the centre.
